Anime music videos used to require one of two things: the ability to animate, or hundreds of hours of someone else's footage to edit. The first takes years to learn. The second is why classic AMVs live in copyright limbo.
There is now a third route: generate the animation from a photo and a song.
What you can make
You upload a photo, pick a song, choose an anime style, and the output is a music video where an anime version of your subject performs the track. Not a filter pasted over the photo: the scenes are generated in the style, and the character sings, with mouth and movement driven by the audio.
Two formats, same as any Muzie video:
- Lip sync: one continuous anime close-up of your singer performing. The talking-head shot from every anime you have seen, except it is you and it is singing your song.
- Full music video: multiple anime scenes storyboarded from the lyrics, your character moving through them, cut to the music.
Making it look like anime, not like a filter
The style choice does the heavy lifting, but a few decisions matter:
- Start from a clear photo. The character keeps the identity of the person in the photo: hair, face shape, expression. A sharp, front-facing photo gives the style more to work with.
- Write the direction, not just "anime". Style input is free text, so be specific: "90s cel anime, film grain, golden hour", "dark shonen, neon city at night, rain", "soft slice-of-life pastel". Each produces a recognisably different video. The prompt guide has more patterns.
- Match the energy of the track. Ballads suit soft pastel looks; anything aggressive suits high-contrast night scenes. The style is doing the job a director of photography would.
- Let the chorus return. In full video mode the singer comes back for the hooks, like a performance cut in an actual anime opening.
The anime opening, specifically
The single most requested shape: make my song look like an anime OP. That is a full music video with a fast style, scene variety and the singer front and centre on the chorus. Trim your track to 60 to 90 seconds first, since real openings are 90 seconds and the format reads instantly at that length. Then post the same video as a vertical cut for short-form.
For musicians: why anime style earns its keep
Anime-styled music content has a dedicated audience on every platform, and it solves the faceless problem at the same time: the anime version of you performs, you never appear on camera. It also ages differently from photoreal generation. Stylised output hides the artefacts that photoreal exposes, so anime videos tend to look cleaner at the same cost.
And for everyone else
You do not need to be releasing music. Your friend as a shonen protagonist singing a power ballad. Your cat as a magical-girl lead. A couple's photo as the romantic duet from a series that does not exist. The style is the gift.
