How to add a Spotify Canvas to your track

Canvas is set per track in Spotify for Artists, on the app or the web dashboard. Here is where the setting lives, what the upload needs, why it sometimes does not show, and how to make the loop with Muzie if you do not have one yet.

Adding a Canvas, step by step

Four steps in Spotify for Artists. You need to be verified as the artist on the profile.

Step 1

Open Spotify for Artists

The app on iOS or Android, or artists.spotify.com on the web. Sign in with the account that is verified for the artist profile.

Step 2

Pick the track

Go to Music, open the song, and find Canvas. It lives on the track, not the profile, so each song gets its own.

Step 3

Upload the clip

A 9:16 video between 3 and 8 seconds. Audio in the file is ignored. Spotify checks the ratio and length on upload and rejects anything outside them.

Step 4

Wait, then check on a phone

It usually appears within hours, sometimes up to a day. Canvas only shows in the mobile app on the Now Playing screen, never on desktop.

It has not processed yet

Upload to live can take up to a day. Check again on a phone tomorrow before changing anything.

You are looking on desktop

Canvas is mobile only. Open the track in the Spotify app on a phone and let it play; it appears on the Now Playing screen.

The listener has Canvas turned off

In the Spotify app, Settings, then Playback, there is a Canvas toggle. If it is off on the listener side, no Canvas shows for anyone. Yours is still live for everyone else.

The file failed the spec

Wrong ratio, under 3 seconds or over 8 and the upload silently does not stick. Re-export at 9:16 and re-trim.

You are not verified on that profile

Only a verified artist or team member with the right access can set a Canvas. Check your access level in Spotify for Artists.

You have no loop to upload

The most common reason. Muzie makes one from your cover art or a photo of you performing the hook in minutes, exported portrait and ready for the upload step above.

Need the loop itself?

Match the artwork, or make the Canvas the reason someone taps the profile.

Adding a Canvas: questions

The things artists ask while setting one up.

On the track, not the profile. Open Spotify for Artists, go to Music, open the song, and the Canvas option is there. It is the same on the app and the web dashboard.

Yes. The Spotify for Artists app is on Android and iOS, and the web dashboard works from any browser. The Canvas then shows to listeners on both platforms.

Usually one of: it has not processed yet (allow up to a day), you are checking on desktop (Canvas is mobile only), the listener has Canvas turned off in Playback settings, or the file failed the 9:16 and 3 to 8 second spec.

Yes. Go back to the track in Spotify for Artists and upload a new clip or remove the current one. Many artists refresh the Canvas when a track gets a new push.

Each track has its own, so one upload covers one song. A discography where every track moves reads as a bigger artist, and the same session can make one per release.

Upload your cover art or a photo of you and the track to Muzie, pick a style, and trim the portrait export to 5 to 8 seconds. Download the file and upload it in the Canvas step above.

The upload takes a minute once you have the clip. Make the clip now, watch it loop twice, and set it on the track before the next push.
